Summer jobs for teens working with children

If you are a teen looking for a summer job with kids, there is hope. There are a lot of opportunities out there, especially if you want to work with children. Since school is out, there are children everywhere. The need is high.

Babysitting is a universal job for teens. This is a quick and easy way to make a little extra cash. If you have experience, you can even start your own service. Just make a few flyers and hand them out to parents. (In this instance, it is a good idea to provide references.)

Day-care centers and summer programs are usually crowded this time of year. In many cases, they would love the extra help. Visit a local center and see what you need to do to put in an application.

Local recreation centers offer big brother/sister programs. You will act as a big sibling for a child that doesn't have one. This job doesn't usually pay but you can make a difference in a child's life. In this sense, it's more rewarding anyhow.

Most schools have summer-school programs. Check with your local school system to see if they need help with tutoring or mentoring. You could also sign up for the library reading programs. It isn't likely that you will get paid for this either but you don't always get paid for helping others and that doesn't make it any less worth it.

Party entertaining is a great way to make some extra money. All you need is a costume of a popular or fun kid's icon (Sponge Bob, a clown, Bob the builder, Spiderman, etc.) and a few tricks. Many people love to hire entertainers for their kids' parties so this could be a terrific market.

Junior camp counselors don't always get paid but you can get free room and board. It will also help get you away from home and offer a fun new summer environment. You can also help out with any church activities for the summer. This can include the choir or bible school activities.

Another fun summer job for teens is helping out with extra curricular activities. If you have a special skill or talent in sports or another activity, you could work with children to help them develop their skills. Sometimes children will respond better to people who are closer to their level.

If you are a good swimmer and have certification in CPR, you could check into being a lifeguard at your local pool. There is a high need here during the summer hours and if you know water safety, it isn't a hard job. If you are interested, check into your options ahead of time so you can be prepared when summer gets here.

There are many great summer job opportunities for teens that will allow them to work with children. Not all of these jobs will offer financial compensation but they help with so much more. The experience can be emotionally rewarding and a lot of fun along the way. Long-term, summer-jobs (especially volunteer work) can be a gateway to other opportunities and it looks great on college and job resumes!
