How to treat oily skin with milk of magnesia

If you have oily skin you will know what a problem it can be. You seem to have constant shine to your skin and make up can be very difficult to apply. You may spend a lot of money on skincare products and prescription-required ointments specially formulated for oily skin but your answer may already be lying in your cupboards.

I remember when I was little and being given Milk of Magnesia and hated its horrible chalkiness. YUCK! I think I would rather suffer with whatever was wrong with me at the time!

It may seem strange to some to apply a fluid that was originally appointed by Doctors to help relieve constipation and other gastro-intestinal issues but many experts now recommend people who have oily skin use Milk of Magnesia in their treatment. Although you can get this in tablet form now, the original milky version is still available and this is ideal for applying to oily skin.

As Milk of Magnesia is only sold in a large quantity, you can put a portion of it in a smaller container. This can be stored somewhere convenient until you need some more. This gives you a long term solution at a small cost.

Cleanse your face as usual with a product specially designed for oily skin to help your skin even more. Pat your skin dry with a towel. When your face is completely dry apply the Milk of Magnesia using a cotton wool ball all over the face. You only need to apply a thin layer. You will find that just a small amount goes a long way as the consistency of Milk of Magnesia is very much like calamine lotion. Applying to much may cause your skin to appear whitish or chalky. Allow your skin to dry and then apply your foundation.

Loose powder is best for oily skin as opposed to pressed powder which does not allow your skin to breathe. Apply the loose powder on top of the Milk of Magnesia and your foundation. Your skin will feel smoother and drier than what it normally does.

Milk of Magnesia not only helps reduce the oiliness of the skin but also provides you with a smooth canvas on which you can apply your make up as it allows it to "cling" to the skin. Often oily skin is too "slippery" for your make up to go on properly but Milk of Magnesia takes this problem away.

If you only suffer from oily skin very occasionally you may find Milk of Magnesia makes your skin dry and tight because it is too harsh for your skin type. The use of this lotion is only really recommended for those who have genuine problems with oily skin. If you have combination skin and want to use Milk of Magnesia make sure you only apply it on the areas which are affected by the oil and no where else. If you use Milk of Magnesia without really needing it you may find that your pores become clogged.
