Ten Best Places For Hiding Money At Home
We all have our own personal reasons for hiding money at home - fear of bank failures, untrustworthy family members or roommates, burglary concerns, or simply wanting access to quick cash - whatever the motive, there are several creative hiding places to employ to guarantee your stash stays where you put it until you are ready to retrieve it.
1. Under the toilet tank lid. Place paper money in a sturdy ziplock freezer bag and tape the top opening securely with duck tape. Remove the toilet tank lid and duck tape to the underside of the lid.
2. Inside the dog bed. Most pet beds have a zippered cover that is removable for laundering. Unzip the opening and place ziplock bag of money on the underside of the bed and zip it up. (If your pet is prone to chewing on his bed, this may not be a good location.)
3. Inside a potted plant. Remove the plant and soil from one of your house plants and place the ziplock bag at the bottom of the pot. Because of moisture concerns, you may want to double-bag your loot. Refill the pot with the soil and then the plant.
4. Inside an empty shampoo bottle. This obviously works well in bottles that are not clear. Remove all shampoo residue from the bottle and thoroughly clean and dry the inside. Roll up the money as tight as you can and ease it through the opening. Place the cap back on and put the bottle to the back of a lower bathroom cupboard. You can cut the bottle open to retrieve the money at a later time.
5. Under the toilet seat cover. If you have one of those funky shag toilet seat covers, you can slip a few bills underneath it without it being noticed. Make sure the money is as flat as possible and does not create any bulges or humps.
6. Box of tampons. This is a great hiding place for the woman of the house as most men won't go near this area. Empty out the tampon box - place folded bills at the bottom and replace the tampons back into the box, being careful to fully conceal the money at the bottom.
7. Inside flashlight battery compartment. Choose a flashlight from a tackle box or one that is used in the garage for emergencies. The more beat up and ugly the flashlight, the better. Unscrew the bottom and place rolled-up bills inside and replace the cap. Place the flashlight in an area where only you would normally use it - back in tackle box, tool box or on a garage shelf amongst the bug killer and half-empty paint cans.
8. Dog house. If your dog has an outdoor doghouse, take the ziplock bag of bills and tape it securely to either inside roof of the house where your dog cannot access it or place it underneath the doghouse floor.
9. Inside a zippered pillow cover. Unzip the outer pillow cover (I'm talking about decorative couch or floor pillows) and slip the bills between the stuffing and the cover as close to the bottom as possible, being careful to conceal the bills as best as possible.
10. Inside a hat band. This works well for a couple of Benjamins, folded lengthwise. Fold the bills in half and slip them into the inner band of a baseball or cowboy hat. If it's a hat that you wear everyday, all the better.
Keep a list of your hiding places in a secure place, such as a safety deposit box, because as time goes by, you will tend to forget where you put the money and rotate your hiding places at regular intervals.
