Rankings for the first two draft rounds of 2008 fantasy football

Today's sermon is for those involved in the multi billion dollar industry -fantasy football. While the rules and scoring systems do vary, the draft is where your team starts. While there are dynasty leagues, and redraft leagues, and the difference will impact your draft, I will guide those that are going into the fantasy football realm for the first time in a redraft league. In short, who you take this year, will benefit you now, but may not be the long time player you would want for years to come.

The first thing you need to know is your scoring system. Some leagues put a heavy scoring system for quarterbacks, while others give the nod to the running backs. In either situation however running backs should be the focus in the first two rounds of your draft, which we will focus on today. The reason for putting off the quarterback, or wide receiver position in most cases is simply because the discrepancy in scoring between running backs are more severe than that of a quarterback, save the premiere quarterbacks like Tom Brady with his record performing 2007 season and Peyton Manning in any season. The sole fact that the running back committee is becoming more and more the trend is just one more reason why obtaining the premiere running backs should be a focus early in the draft, before your competition can beat you to the selection.
So sit down in that pew before you, take out your pen and notebook and for now, put down the small collection of fantasy football guides and listen to the preacher. This is who, and why, the first two rounds should go in a twelve team draft.
1. LaDainian Tomlinson Over the past five years there has not been a running back who has put up the lofty statistical numbers as consistently as LaDanian Tomlinson, and while his offseason interviews have involved the discussion of his retirement, he does not intend to do so in 2008, and as this ranking is with the mindset of a one year league, that should not be a deterrent, as he is expected to be as productive as he has over the years, averaging 18.43 total TD's a season (not including those he has thrown), and approximately 1,521 yards rushing each season.
2. Adrian Peterson Despite starting only nine games in his rookie campaign, he piled up an NFC high, 1,341 yards rushing, second in the league. He also tallied up 12 touchdowns rushing, and another receiving. While Chester Taylor will take some carries, it's fair to say that Adrian Peterson will get approximately 30 touches
