2008 buyer's guide to handheld PDAs

Star Date 2008: The Search for The Perfect PDA.

Every single year the technological world sits impatiently in wait for newest arrivals of the year. Most of us techno-geeks have already downloaded the leaked snapshots, and read the rumored specs. Even before the devices hit the shelf, someone probably has already prepared a detailed review. Now comes the time to decide which Personal Data Assistant (PDA), makes the grade, and becomes one of the best buys for the year 2008.

Almost anyone now can benefit from a PDA to manage their day-to-day business, regardless if you wear a suit and tie or not. Mothers can benefit from time management that comes from an organized agenda, to keep appointments at an arms length. Students no longer have to worry about balancing a difficult curriculum, or wondering if they have a test next week.

The first thing to determine before buying a PDA, is what do I want it to do for me? If you're satisfied with just a phone-book slash agenda, there is no need to shell out extra cash for a higher end device. However if you're a geek like myself, who desires the ability to watch MPG video files, synchronize with your desktop, and access email and web while on the fly, be ready to spend some extra dough to acquire the best of the year.

I have chosen two catagories to diversify your search, since not everyone has a huge wad of cash to spend. I have itemized my device selections based on cost, and in order of preference, which I hope will assist with your decision on what to buy.

Best Value:

1.) -Motorola Q9c Edition-

This device is affordable, powerful and stacked with a plentiful array of applications and features. The Motorola Company has been in the business of wireless, and personal digital devices for long enough to know what the consumer's want, and the Motorola Q series has definitely captures its audience. There isn't a massive upgrade to be found in the Q9c Edition, but it still is one of the slimmest and lightest handhelds on the market today. The vibrant color screen is capable of playing a host of media file types on the Windows media player, but it doesn't stop there. It sports a full QWERTY keyboard, 40MB of storage memory, and a more than ample processor to make the whole thing come together.

Specs and stuff:

-Weight comes at 5.2 ounces.
-Windows Mobile 5.0 platform
-Display 320x240 65k color Thin Film Transistor (TFT).
-Ambient light sensor.
-Processor 312 MHz.
-Camera 1.3
