Microsoft Office templates include pre-programmed auto fill fields, macros and formats for software packages such as calendars, letterheads, resumes etc. In Microsoft Office, a variety of templates exist for several different programs such as word, excel, powerpoint, front page etc. Depending on which office suite is used, all or some of the Microsoft office software applications and templates may or may not be available. Templates allow the software user to save time, energy and thought when preparing textual, pictorial or numerical presentations. Using the templates is a fairly straightforward procedure and is outlined in the sub-sequent two sections.
Section I: How to Use a Microsoft Office Template
To use a template, open a Microsoft office software application. A list of template choices should appear when the software opens. If one bypasses this step and enters into a new blank document, spreadsheet or presentation, templates can also be selected from the file tab in the main software toolbar. For word, excel and powerpoint the sub-tab is 'project gallery' and allows a selection of various pre-fabricated templates.
After clicking on a template the formatting is already prepared and an entry box or wizard will appear prompting the user to enter information into text fields. This information will the be automatically entered into the template. Depending on the type of template, more than one formatting option will be available within the template wizard.
There are a variety of different templates within Microsoft office and they are an efficient way to prepare information time permitted for creative design and fabrication of information is not available. Templates may therefore lack certain aspects of creativity had the software user designed the formatting and inputted the information into the software making use of the software tools independently.
Section II: Types of Microsoft Office Templates:
Depending on which software is used a number of template options may be available. An overview of some of the different templates available in different Microsoft office software packages is provided below. The templates listed and referred to are not a complete list of the available templates but are intended to provide an understanding of how templates can be used and for what purposes.
