Misery is a very strong word, but its an even stronger feeling...
Misery can be caused by internal conditions...
We humans are highly dependent creatures and people can easily effect others in profound ways. All humans want to feel desired and important. We all want a place to belong and to feel loved. Us humans also have certain "needs" that need to be satisfied. Yet with this in mind, our society in which we live is growing more greedy, selfish and cold as each day passes. In a world filled with instant gratification, convienience, and looser standards, this provides a breeding ground for impatience, rudeness, and selfishness. People have adopted the mentality that something can be easily replaced, or that there has to be something "better" out there. This statement can be precieved in two different ways. Those that are being "discarded" are highly impacted emotionally at an intimate level. On the other side of the spectrum, this metality infuses inside those that have adopted such feeling of never being satisfied either always wanting more or nothing is ever good enough.
Feelings of desperation, being controlled, not achieving what it is that you need. When your hopes, dreams and ideals are quickly sqaushed. If others steal your energy by being constantly negative or taking away your basic right to certain things. (Misery likes company)
Being stripped of your basic needs of survival: food, water, and shelter.
Misery can also be caused by external conditions...
If you are always exposed to miserable weather conditions you in turn are more miserable. If you actually take notice, you will see that in those places geographically that have extreme weather conditions or just plain miserable weather for long periods of time, that generally the people who live in those climates are miserable.
Working conditions that are harsh, where you are not treated as an individual, fairly, or being dis-respected. Circumstances that are totally out of your control, that no matter what you do you could not change.
Misery can also be caused by deep-rooted pain that has not been healed.
Misery has its way of easily casting a cloud over you that easily can weigh you down. Its a heavy burden to succumb to such a feeling. That is why we must try to stay positive through it all...
"Can not staisfy this hunger
As the inner devil feeds
Slowly wasting away
As my heart forever bleeds
I try so desperately to receive
My every want and need
But its a long winding battle
When the enemy fought is greed" KSF
Take it from someone who knows the feeling all to well...
