Tips on vertical jump for basketball players

Learning how to be a more effective vertical jumper can sometimes be spoken from the mouths of babes. After a rich conversation on the subject with young people here is what was revealed; and only the young at heart could come up with these wonderful tips! Some of the skills that would help you learn how to be an effective vertical jumper.

The first thing that one must realize is that a vertical jump takes practice to affect skill. Now you might think that some people are born with that talent but the truth is that people spend a lot of time in training perfecting a technique; one that if successful ultimately pays off. Realize that potential is in anyone who is willing and dedicated enough to try to master the technique. Spud Webb was about 5' 7'' and he was able to master it.

The second thing that was noted was that a positive or optimistic presence of mind is a good start to be in. Always say to yourself that you can do this if you practice; and not once ever discount yourself! You are sixty percent of what you think that you are and that is half the battle.

The third tip is that the mind and body must be in synchronized effort; position yourself with bended knees and depending on how powerful your legs are and how tall that you are maximize your running jump in momentum while moving towards the net. It would seem feasible that the smaller you are the more force you would need to generate and build up before taking your vertical jump, so run hardy to jump.

Finally, don't use your arms for power but more so for balance and body positioning and then let your legs take the jump. The more spring in your legs is a plus for the player that practices the vertical jump. Even if you think that it is a waste of time playing basketball and practicing your jump think again. Look at what this exercised practice has accomplished. Practicing vertical jumps become a two-fold win-win effort; a fun form of exercise that can put you in shape for any basketball team competition and it ultimately helps you to master a new skill.

Now that you have a few tips to inspire and challenge you to excel in basketball and practice the vertical jump always be in the frame of mind to keep trying because persistence normally does pay off; and furthermore don't ever fall into the stigma that "white men can't jump"; prove that you can through persistent practice. May the jump be with you!
