Humor: Hello love, good-bye friendship

Sometimes, I don't understand women. Considering that I am a woman, this might sound like an odd thing to say. But honestly, there's nothing I understand less than when a women gets into a relationship and all of a sudden starts treating her friends like invisible ghosts unworthy of even a phone call. Not very smart, girls!

It's easy to get wrapped up in a new relationship. We've all been thereobsessing about what to wear, wondering if you said the right thing, asking your friends a hundred times why he hasn't called today, it's all normal behavior. Some girls exhibit this behavior into oblivion until their friends can't stand them and move to another state just to get away.

Others just seem to become so entranced with their mate that they don't remember ever having friends- perhaps it's a disease that causes her to be unable to see any numbers in her phone except her boyfriend's. Because if you're her friend, you're certainly not getting any "hey, just wanted to see how you're doing!" phone calls any time soon.

There are too many women out there who completely forget about their friends when they're in a relationship. We've all known at least one person like this, and it's so upsetting to go through an entire year barely talking to your friend solely because she's obsessed with her boyfriend. And then when they break up, your friend comes crawling back to you and wants to hang out all the time again. Um hello? Someone needs to get off the "hi, I'm selfish" train.

See, there's something called "balance." I know it's a complicated concept, but it's necessary for a healthy life (and relationship with your boyfriend, believe it or not). It's not healthy to spend 23.5 hours each day with your significant other, ignoring everyone else in your life, and only calling your friends once a month just to brag about the cute little things boyfriend Tom has done for you.

Balance is really not that hard to obtain. I've managed to do it without even using my higher brain functions. And believe me, I am 180% obsessed with my boyfriend. I would see him every single second of the day if I could, but I also know that's not healthy. My girls and I have our nights, and I have other nights with my man. There are 7 days in every week- if you can't give up at least one night for your friends, there's something seriously wrong with your schedule.

Girls need their girlfriends. There are some things that boyfriends just aren't good for: shopping, sympathy about cramps, or even normal girl talk. Most men would rather dip their feet in an acid bath than listen to a woman's 3 hour story about her hair appointment. That's why we need our friends! So next time a friend of yours starts ignoring you for her boyfriend, remind her of that one time she was traumatized over a botched eyebrow waxing and you listened to her cry for hours. What are friends for, right?
