Helium Dos & Don'ts

How to increase your earnings at Helium

Helium is a difficult place to make money. Many people believe that they will receive a significant payment when they very first get started on the site. Then, they experience disappointment when they can't even earn enough money to get a payout.

There are strategies which can effectively earn you money on Helium.com. You have to be clever, and jump when opportunity strikes.

Special Promotions

Helium periodically holds special promotions on the site, which writers can use to make money. For example, the Reward-a-thon is a promotion which permits Helium members to earn as much as three dollars for every article submitted during the promotion period, which runs between January 7, 2008 through April 15, 2008. This promotion requires that the writer have at least one writing star and three rating stars by the end of the promotion period in order to receive the promotional payments. In this case, the payment is $1 per article for every article submitted between January 7 and April 14 when the writer has one writing star, and $3 per article submitted during the promotional period for the writer with 5 stars. From what I have seen, you must have about 250 articles on Helium to have 3 writing stars, and between 1,000 to 2,000 articles to have 5 writings stars, so plan accordingly.

Check your email regularly to see if Helium has notified you of a special promotion. Then read that promotion carefully to make sure that you understand the rules. This promotion is rather convoluted and I had to go over it several times before I fully understood how it worked. Take care that you fulfill all requirements of the promotion, or you could end up losing a lot of money. The quality of your rating in particular is important when trying to gain rating stars. If you rate too quickly, for example, you may actually lose rating stars which you previously gained. So when rating, slow down and really pay attention to what you're doing. Try to rate one or two articles for every article you write, and you'll be more likely to get credit for your rating.

The Marketplace

The marketplace is the best place to earn cash on Helium. Publishers post topics and instructions on how to write the article they are looking to purchase. The writer's share of the payment is posted directly beside this topic. When the publisher makes their decision, the selected writers are posted in the forum, which is under the "Community" tab of the navigation bar on the Helium
