A new breed of headphones has come into order, and it's offspring is called a headset. With the marriage of ear speakers and a microphone the computer headset has allowed online programs to evolve. Both technologies are distinct but also are so similar in characteristics it's like splitting hairs when comparing them.
Headphones are an integral part of computers and their basic features haven't changed much since games started to blip and bleep. They allow a user to listen to audio privately and can greatly range in price and features. Though called computer headphones they are not dependent on a connection to a computer as they can be used with many other audio devices.
What distinguishes the headset from headphones is a microphone. Adding this tiny wonder to headphones has opened communication barriers for many of its users. Headsets vary in another way from headphones, a headset can either have one or two ear speakers, where as headphones will always have two.
A single speaker headset is usually used by VOIP callers and/or for online chatting. Where as the dual speaker version is preferred by gamers for its depth of sound. The advantage a headset gives over a separate microphone and headphone configuration is a free hand to work with.
Remember that headset microphones are usually more sensitive then that of regular phone mics and take some adjusting to. Also phone and computer headsets are not interchangeable. A computer head set will look very similar to headphones but can be recognized with the microphone sticking out of one ear speaker.
Both of these audio devices can be connected by wired connection or wirelessly. Other features include volume control, and ear styles. There are three basic headphone/set seated styles; around the head, around ear(s), and in the ear (buds). All styles offer equal audio quality and which ever style you like should be comfortable to wear.
Individual audio needs vary by person but between these two brothers you'll be sure to find what suits your needs. So whether your talking to team mates in an online battle or just listening to your favorite song, headphones and head sets will give you a great audio experience.
