I have never been so shocked and discouraged by our system of government as I have been the past couple of years, and I cannot say that I have been naive. I am writing this article because I have realized that the event that touched upon me and my family personally also has happened to many others, and yet so few members of the public have become aware of it.

In a nutshell what happened. The background. I am a professional psychologist in Montreal. My wife is a psychiatrist in the same area. We were one of the first lesbian couples to get married when it became legal. We were both relatively free of debt when we went on our honeymoon. Though marriage is a costly event, we were both confident that a few months of hard work would get us both out of debt. We did not have a crystal ball on the future!
We gave our receipts and returns to my wife's chartered accountant before embarking on our honeymoon, only to return to find out that her salary was being garnished 50% no negotiations, no phone calls, no help from the accountant, no warning...
We attempted to negotiated with the woman from Quebec taxation but to no avail.
At that time...we had a house, 200,000 in RSVP, an autistic son in need of treatment, myself who has borderline lupus, and my wife with a hearing disorder and ADD and for the first time in our lives, we both had a house we had struggled to achieve.

What happened?

We got taken advantage of by a con artist to a tune of 15000
The Quebec Taxation government divided up and only looked at her taxes for the years she owed apparently.
They did not listen to us for one moment to the effect that the accountant had her papers not her....they just added to her penalties.
They decided she was a criminal and were going after to no matter what
They decided that she had underreported her income for 3 years
They refused to settle and continued to garnish her wages to the tune of 50%

The effect:
Our health deteriorated
We lost income and got into debt as my lower income had to pay for our needs
We lost our house and had to declare bankruptcy even though our credit rating 1 day prior for both of us was A+ and our earning potential was quite high.
The banks would not help us get into a position to negotiate with the government.
When the Canadian taxation wanted to get involved, Quebec decided to take 100% of her income stating "her husband could take care it" this was said to our lawyer.
They continue to try to get money from 2006 even though
