i don't think that there are any outstanding motorcycle helmets on the market but there are still some rules that you should follow . always by a new helmet . if you by an old helmet it could have been damaged and therefore no good when it comes down to doing the job properly . always by the best that you can afford you are talking about something that could save your life its no time to be counting the pennies . always wear a correctly fitting helmet . using a helmet that is too loose will not be good make sure that when you try on helmets that you get one that is the correct size and most of all it is comfortable for you . you may have to try a number of different makes and manufacturers to get one that you like . do not under any circumstances paint or put stickers on your helmet . this will weaken it and sometimes make it unsafe to use . it is recommended that you get a new helmet every 5-6 years so if your helmet has seen better days maybe its time you thought about getting a new one .finally it goes without saying always wear your helmet while you are riding your bike and always have the strap done up correctly . its no use having it on unless its done up properly . believe me a helmet can come off if not done up correctly and your brain is a sensitive organ that needs all the protection that you can give it . do not use a helmet with a worn out or scratched visor this will make the job of seeing anything really difficult and sometimes cause an accident . always protect your eyes when riding . do not ride without a visor or protective goggles if you even get a tiny insect in your eye it will really hurt and if you was unlucky to get a piece of grit or a stone in your eye at speed it could blind you . i cant think of anyone who would want to ride without a helmet but if you are thinking about it please think again . you never know when you might have an accident and be needing it .i use an arai hemet , these hemets are used by many proffesianal motorcyle riders and formula one drivers . and have been develped over many years . you can by helmets in many colours and desighns nowadays its a matter of personal taste whatever you want to wear but myself i just stick to a plain white coloured one hoping that this can be easily spotted by other road users . one thing i forgot to say if you are on the scene of an accident and a motorcylist has fallen off . make sure they are breathing but do not under any circumstances remove their hemet !
