Assessing the New York Giants' chance of winning Super Bowl XLII

Can the New York Giants go all the way?

The New York Giants have shown surprising resilience in their ability to face adversity and still manage to fight back and hang in there. After an abysmal start to the season at one and three, they came back to secure a wild card berth in the playoffs. Although they have had trouble winning at home, the Giants have only lost once on the road to a strong Dallas Cowboys team. The winds at Giants Stadium seems to effect Eli Manning's ability to throw accurately at home games. But when the Giants had to play at Buffalo to secure a victory, in a stadium notorious for lake effect winds, they managed to beat Buffalo and move on to a wild card berth. Although Eli had trouble with fumbles and interceptions, the team still found a way to win by running Brandon Jacobs, and Ahmad Bradshaw. Then the Giants, already in the playoffs, took on the Boston Patriots and just missed beating them in the swirling winds at Giants Stadium.

Today I like the Giants chances of going all the way, much better than either Tampa Bay or Dallas. Both teams have fallen to a determined Giants team, who are gaining confidence and playing better with every game. Some teams peak too early in the season and collapse at the end. The Giants appear to get better and play harder with every game at the end of the season.

Now the Giants will face their stiffest test of the season. Eli Manning must again face the fierce Wisconsin winds of winter, and bitter cold of Lam beau Field, facing a strong Green Bay team lead by Brett Favre, a skilled veteran of the ice wars at Lam beau Field. If Eli can withstand the fierce cold and wind, as well as a vicious Green Bay defense, and can still find a way to win under extremely adverse conditions, and the Giant defense can find a way to hold Brett Favre in check, then perhaps the Giants can pull another upset off, and move on to the Super Bowl. There the weather will be much better and the chance of winning it all will become possible.

For now, the Giants must go to Green Bay Wisconsin, in January, and play a powerful team, that has already beaten them soundly at home. If the Giants wear white, they may have a chance to go out concealed. But please don't send me. I have a bad feeling about this one, Eli. I am afraid they will face a blow out in a white out. But, the season isn't about the destination, it is all about the ride. And, this year my ride as a Giants fan with the Giants has been Bodacious!
