How South Africa can take a leadership role in maintaining peace and stability in the rest of Africa

Indeed South Africa is an African giant that towers well above a lot of countries in terms of the countries economic strength which in essence the country must be using to leverage its stance in what the leadership preaches, "democracy".

The word "democracy" is easier said through the word of mouth and paper than done. South Africa in the Nelson Mandela era put up the structures for democracy and initiated it with action. To the whole world, he was truelly a world leader of unimaginable standing and he still is.

The democratic structure architectured by Mandela was not based on vengence and loath, but was based on faith and belief that the country must forge ahead, unite and be a regional player in bringing stability and peace.

In uniting South Africa, Nelson Mandela believed that it will give him enough time to focus on other issues surrounding the borders of South Africa, as the country was and still remains squarely capable in terms of its resources.

Nelson Mandela came and went in 5 years and it was too little a time for Mandela to carve the country in his ideals. He then passed the reigns to Thabo Mbeki who took over and turned the country to a different direction to that initiated by Nelson Mandela.

Zimbabwe is another country that South Africa was suppossed to show who they are, but the African National Congress in the leadership of Thabo Mbeki decided to befriend the dictactorial Robert Mugabe. As early as 2000, Nelson Mandela pointed out to Mbeki that Mugabe was sitting on the crest of the wave of tyrany and world leaders must spaek out.

Nelson Mandela spokeout in one of his speeches about African leaders who lead countries at the expense of their people and that did not go well with Thabo Mbeki and I personally believe that a quick word was sent out to the honourable Nelson to "butt out of politics", though it counld have been put mildly across to him.

Zimbabwe has since then gone down the drain with Thabo Mbeki aiding in the sinking of his neighbouring country. His involvement has not yielded anything, infact it has brought more suffering and torment for the poor people of Zimbabwe who have voted Mugabe out countless times but are contantly conned out of their victory with the South African obverser team reporting the truth to the president but the president announcing a different thing altogether to the world.

In year 2000, he was the first to say the election was "free and fair". What was that?. A lot of people asked. I
