Breakfast is regarded as the most essential meal of the day, so what could be a better way to begin than by having a bowl of your own, home-made, healthy and nutritious muesli.
A simple method of making your own museli and enjoying a quick and easy breakfast. All the ingredients should be readily available in your local health food store or supermarket.
Preparation: 5 minutes.
Approximate calories per five tablespoons: 275
Makes 800g (1 3/4 lb)
Ingredients:
175g (6oz) Oatmeal
75g (3oz) Wheatgerm
75g (3oz) Bran or Bran cereal
75g (3oz) Raisins
75g (3oz) Mixed dried fruit
75g (3oz) Chopped nuts, of your choice - Walnuts, pecans, almonds, hazelnuts.
75g (3oz) Sunflower seeds
50g (2oz) Sesame seeds
40g (1.5oz) Flaked coconut
Simply combine all the ingredients and store in the refigerator, in an airtight container.
Serve with either milk or natural yogurt, topped with honey or sugar.
If you prefer , you can try an alternative option and cook the museli. Simply add 175ml
(6fl oz) of water for each serving and bring to the boil. Cook over a moderate heat for approx. 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, cover the pan, and allow to stand for 3 minutes. You can add salt when cooking if you require.
If desired, sweeten using honey or sugar.
