Wealth-building programs: The science of getting rich

The Science of Getting Rich

The use of the word science implies that there is some kind of formula to get rich. A few simple steps and you will have wealth beyond your wildest dreams.

The positive message is that there is a formula and it is very simple. The downside is that the time-line is dependent on what you consider "rich" to be.

Before I divulge this 'secret', it is worth spending a little time on the concept of "rich". Ask yourself why you want to be rich? Yes, there is the big picture conceptual version of rich where you have everything that money can buy. The big house, the flash car, the glamorous lifestyle, being able to travel the world, the most beautiful women (or men, I'll make no distinctions on that basis) in the world at your beck and call. These are the things that I guess most of us commonly associate with being rich, but having all of these things is sadly fantasy land stuff. If you believe that you can go from nothing to this level of mega-wealth, then you probably still believe in Santa Claus, the tooth fairy and the Easter Bunny (in which case, oops, sorry to break the bad news to you).

Most of us dwelling in the realm of reality probably equate "rich" to happiness. Possible free of the normal financial worries that 99 per cent of the world's population experience on a payday to payday basis. If that's the case, then you should probably ask yourself whether being "rich" is going to make you happy. After all, there are plenty of instances of seriously unhappy millionaires or billionaires. There are also many lotto or lottery winners wishing that they had never won their fortunes. And it isn't an isolated few cases. In pursuing wealth, it has overtaken other aspects of their lives to become the be all and end all. The Gordon Gecko philosophy, or "greed is good" existence. In these cases, money hasn't brought them happiness at all, it has merely helped them to choose their own form of misery. So, I guess what I am saying is to be careful what you wish for.

If you define "rich" as a purely financial creature, then the secret of building long term and sustainable wealth is so simple that you will kick yourself for not having realised it sooner. The secret is this - to always spend less than you earn. It doesn't matter what you do. Well, that's a lie, it does matter as I would never condone any money making activity that contravenes any law, so I'll put the rider in that we are talking about legal activities
