What to look for when buying rotisserie chicken at the store

When you are purchasing a rotisserie chicken at the store it should be relatively easy in choosing the perfect one. If you have any questions or need any help then ask the person behind the counter at your supermarket. Here are a few key things that you want to look for in choosing the best rotisserie chicken.

* Size and plumpness ~ This can be an indicator of just how the chicken will taste when you bring it home. If the chicken looks shriveled and old then the meat will taste the same way. Look for a round, plump chicken since they are typically juicy and tasty. Also a larger chicken is a good indicator of an older bird which will be more muscular and taste better as well.

* Color ~ The best rotisserie chickens should be golden brown. If it is to dark, then it is a sign that it has been in the oven to long and the meat will be dry most likely.

* Make sure that the packaging looks clean. Take a look at the chicken packaging as well as other ready to go items in the deli department of the store. If everything looks good and clean then it is a good indicator that the store practices proper sanitary requirements.

* Make sure that the chicken is hot. The store should be providing steady heat to guard against spoilage. If the chicken is not going to be eaten within two hours then refrigerate it when you get home.

A rotisserie chicken can be stored in your refrigerator for up to three days safely. Keep in mind that organic or free range chickens will always taste more like you made it at home yourself. So if those two are options at the grocery store you may want to buy them for better quality and taste.

If you have any questions make sure that you ask the person behind the deli counter. Ask them what the turn over time is one the chicken and if it is prepared daily. Rotisserie chickens are a wonderful and fast alternative to making it at home yourself. Just make sure that you choose the right one and know that you know what to look for you should have no problem doing so.
