How to get along with people you dislike

After working with someone for several years who looks, acts and sounds like the character Roz in the children's movie Monster's Inc., I can vouch that getting along with people you dislike is a bit like running the gauntlet. It is unpredictable and you better watch out for whatever wicked fates they have planned for you, or whoosh! It will be off with your head.

There are several types of people that are usually disliked, and there are specific ways to deal with each.

NEGATIVE NELLY

Watch out for the Negative Nellies. These people find negatives in even the most positive of situations. The best way to deal with Negative Nellies is to remain positive no matter how much they try to ruin things. Use comments such as "Oh, I'm sorry you feel that way." and then move on. Try to avoid these people at all costs as they will only bring you down.

BOSSY BEULAH

This is the no-it-all. This person is never wrong, always knows best for everyone and makes sure that everyone knows it. The best way to deal with this person is the philosophy of three strikes and your out. For every two bossy comments this person makes ignore them. For the third bossy comment tell them what's what. Give them heck. Then they will back off for awhile. Then they earn three strikes. This way you don't have to react to every obnoxious bossy comment they make just one-third of the time.

LATE KATE

There is always an acquaintance or a co-worker that never does anything on time. The best way to deal with these people is to adjust the time schedule. Tell them something is due Friday when it is really due Monday. Tell them lunch is at noon when it is really at 1:00. Do not wait for them. If they don't meet the deadlines or appointments on time there needs to be consequences. The reason they keep being late is that they have never been held accountable.

STINKY PETE

A Stinky Pete is someone that has hygiene issues. These can range from body odor to too much cologne to smoking in a non-smoking area. These people rarely take the hint, and often don't even change when told directly there is a problem, so you better buy some good air sanitizers and air cleaners.

NASTY NEIGHBOR NANCY

It is always touchy to deal with nasty neighbor because unless you plan on selling your house or moving soon, it will require some diplomacy. Often times a source of disagreement with neighbors are pets, kids, or the yard. Try to be cordial despite any negative comments or behavior. Try to
