Choosing college classes can and does cause premature gray hair and balding. It can make the most sane person crazy. No one wants to make the wrong choices. No one wants to be three years into a degree they don't want or think they can't use. No one wants to waste all that money by taking the wrong classes. By using just a touch of common sense, the process of selecting classes can be easy, fun and, most importantly, stress-free. Save all the stress and worry for when you get married or decide whether or not to have children.
First thing to do is take a deep breath and relax. You aren't going to ruin your life by taking the wrong classes. If you do, you didn't have much of a life to begin with or you would have done something even worse to ruin it even more in sometime in the near future. It isn't the end of the world if you take the wrong class. Learn from the mistake and move on. It isn't the first mistake you ever made and it won't be your last.
Every college major and/or degree program has basic classes that must be taken. If you look closely, whether you are wanting to be astrophysicist or a zoologist, they are all pretty much the same. College English 101, General Psychology 101, College Algebra, are almost guaranteed to be required by any and every program. Take those classes first. All of those classes take about two years to complete and that will give to time to know what you want to do. It will also give you time to hear the campus buzz about classes to avoid and classes that you can't live without. Not to mention who the good professor are. Absolutely positive you want to be an elementary school teacher, then take a basic course in education. Just one, though, to balance out that semester. If you live most college students, you will change your major more times than that roommate no one wants changes their socks.
If you don't know what you want to be when you grow up, this is where choosing classes is fun. Find a class you know absolutely nothing about, preferably something you have never even heard of. Sign up for that class and take it; don't drop on the last day that you can still get your money back. Finish the class. College isn't just about getting a degree. It is about stretching your boundaries and learning about yourself. I don't suggest you take Klingon 101 (yes, that is class!), but take something that is new and you might be able to use. I chose Marketing 101. I loved it!
