How to make the most of a day in Florence, Italy

You may be wondering why on earth anyone would spend just one day in a beautiful city like Florence, where a multitude of historical sights and artistic treasures are overflowing everywhere you look. It would take days to discover all that this city offers a tourist. The cathedrals alone could take days to explore, not to mention the culinary delights and other cultural interests to enjoy. One would think at least two weeks might suffice to get a good perspective.

Sometimes there are circumstances that dictate where we travel and how long we stay. Cruises offer many tours to the passengers and most of them are on buses. If you wish to go off on your own, which many people do, you will need to consider transportation. Your options to get to Florence are taxi, bus, train or hire a car. They all average about an hour and a half ride from Livorno. Costs range from moderate to pricey so it depends on how much you'd like to spend to get there. We chose the train and it was a comfortable and scenic ride all the way to Florence. The train station is within
