Ask yourself what this life would be without a passing smile or a nice bout of laughter. It seems to me that it would be quite drab, and melancholy. I could not imagine a day where life's little lights touched my spirits. In the mundane day to day life, with work, caring for the home and among many other things; it is always nice to have someone who can bring the dawn of laughter into your life especially during the darkest of hours. From a good joke told by a friend or co-worker, to a silly card that is received upon your birthday; any amount of humor is a gladly accepted gift of life.
I believe that life without humor would make a difference in our world as we know it, the ratio of depression vs happiness would greatly shift sides. We already live in a severely morose culture as it is; let alone without a little laughter to spice things up a little bit.
Humor has the power to sway even the most steadfast of human beings; such as a stern lawyer, or a police officer who has seen too many wrong doings in their time protecting our communities. With jobs such as these, it is imperative that someone be able to laugh. This is equally so when someone has little to call their own, with so many homeless upon the street; and the economy tying the hands of the average person, it is sometimes the only thing that a person can give to those in need. Although, generally speaking it is unfortunate that few people stop to consider the feelings of another person; to bring a little laughter to another person's world.
So yes, I can say that humor can and does make a difference in the world. Whether or not we stop to acknowledge the joys that it may bring; is another story however. It is just as important to bring humor into someone's life as it is to recognize the humor, and positively enforced laughter within your own existence. Take a moment to sit down and read your local funny pages, old times with friends, or allow yourself to fall into a humorous conversation with co-workers. As for those who dislike humor in their lives, I would suggest giving it a try as it could very well save you from a bad decision; that is often made in haste while in a negative mood.
