US elections 2008: Whose win would be more historically important: Obama or Clinton?

Results so far:

Obama
63% 215 votes Total: 340 votes
Clinton
37% 125 votes

Politics aside, Obama is obviously the one whose win would impact history more forcefully. Even though there has never been a woman president, Hillary Clinton's last name evokes more of the same old presence. In a time of recession, at a time when most of the populace are disillusioned; a figure like Obama with his kind of Cinderella story would shake the bowels of history. Hillary might give women hope that gender is not a hindrance to ascend to the presidency but that's about all. Her utterances have political overtones written all over them. She will do anything to win and most people already know that, which would decrease the importance

Apart from the fact that she is a woman, Hillary Clinton basically represents the political figure of the day. Obama on the other has the fresh eloquence, that excitement and a promise that most Americans need after 8 years of apathy. Obama brings in new voters who would otherwise have no interest in politics. Americans are known to have apathy towards politics. It would be historical to have a person who moves eighteen year olds and blacks alike to vote in large numbers

Most people would like to look at Obama in a historically important way because he is black. To me he is more than that. With his father having been an immigrant chasing the American dream, it would spell a new horizon. Where else would a child of a modern day immigrant rise to the height that he would if he becomes the president. As a black man it would be immensely important in beginning to cure the tainted history that America has had where the black race is concerned. He also represents young non-elitist, educated Americans who have dedicated their lives to helping the less fortunate, even though they could be earning lots of money in the corporate world. Now that's historical.

Hillary on the other hand represents the regular elitist folks who are used to getting what they want at others expenses. She was the presidents wife for eight years during which she was very active; it would be more of the same. Bill Clinton's presence negates any historical element her presidency would have had. Obama for sure would make the world look at the states in a fresh way.
