I have been a long time watcher of The View and was an enthusiastic supporter when they decided to bring Rosie on as a co-host. Furthermore, I was less than enthusiastic when they chose Elisabeth because I don't agree with many of her political views or opinions. However, over the course of Rosie's time on the show I realized how flawed her arguments were. By the time she left I was happy to see her go. Not only was she terribly intolerant of views that differed from her own but she was outright nasty to anyone who disagreed with her, with Elisabeth being her favorite target.
So I was saddened to read the other day that leaving the show hasn't stopped her personal attacks on Elisabeth. I came across an article regarding an interview Rosie O'Donnell gave on Good Morning America. Here's the excerpt that caught my attention:
O'Donnell said she receives an occasional e-mail response from Hasselbeck.
"She's very young," O'Donnell said. "Your life is a little bit more black and white
[when you are younger.]"
Not only did I find her remarks to be condescending but I also think they are wrong. I don't believe that age has anything to do with how you view the world - black & white or in shades of gray. And I don't believe being young automatically makes your opinion invalid or incorrect.
Elisabeth is 30 years old. To many people 30 years old may be "young" but 30 isn't so young that a person hasn't had time to come to their own conclusions about the world or to make their own opinions. Many 30 year olds have been to college, maybe even grad school, gotten married, had children, and held full-time jobs.
However, age isn't the issue here. The issue is Rosie's inability to respect other people when their opinions differ from hers. Rosie thinks that she's right and if you disagree you must be wrong. It's time that she stopped making personal attacks on other people just because they disagree and start supporting her opinions with valid facts and information. Personal attacks based on age, race, religion, etc. will only devalue whatever point you are trying to make and she would do well to learn that lesson.
I immediately dismiss anything Rosie says due to her inability to validly support her arguments. I'm not interested in her personal attacks.
