In the 2008 United States election it is clear that a win by democratic nominee Barack Obama would be more historically significant than a win by Hillary Clinton. Not that a win by Hillary Clinton would not be historical. Only that the historical obstacles, racial barriers, and challenging childhood experiences endured by Obama serve as an inspiration to hundreds of thousands of Americans that are fighting the same battles in their lives right now.
Obama endured a childhood without his biological father for the majority of his youth. Forced to travel constantly as a child, he did not get much of a chance to cultivate any long lasting relationships with his childhood peers. Despite all that he had to bear in his early years he still maintained his determination and courage to continue his life journey. In 1983, he graduated from Columbia University. Shortly after graduation from Columbia, Obama served as a community organizer in the streets of Chicago. In 1988, he attended Harvard Law School, two years later the NY Times reported that he was the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. He graduated from Harvard Law with honors in 1991.
With everything that Obama had to endure, and still endures, it is amazing that he is even in the position to be the first African American president of the United States of America. Many African Americans never would have dreamed that they would ever see this possibility in there lifetime. That in itself is an accomplishment in the eyes of many Americans. After the decades of oppression and unfair treatment many African Americans were subjected to he has found a way to bring the masses together to congregate for one common goal: that being change.
Right now America can really use change. Obama, being the proverbial "breath of fresh air," has the nation speaking in unison the words of change. The world has not had someone this charismatic, this genuine, this rational in a very long time. With everything that is happening in our world right now, we have to unite for the common good of our country. As Obama stated in one of his speeches, we as Americans have come to the realization that there is "the fierce urgency of now." That means we cannot keep going down the same path. It is time for a change; Americans are getting tired of the same old thing, the same lies, the same broken promises, and the same deceit that we have been accepting for decades. If he was elected president that would send a powerful message to children all across the world that they can do anything if they believe they can. This is an inspirational time in our nation and people understand that we need someone that can unite our nation and bring us together. At this moment it is clear that Barack Obama is the right man for the job and the historical significance of his presidency will resonate infinitely.
