The internet has born yet another new way of communicating: online videos. These videos, due to the popularity of sites like youtube.com, are growing more and more popular. A poll done by AOL shows that 54% of internet users watch online videos. Of those, 72% say that news stories are what they tune into most. However, many of these people are also looking at personal videos online as well.
The popularity of these sites has taken a bit of a negative turn, with teen violence becoming more and more popular as videos. This new age of violence has left many not knowing what to do to stem the tide of negativity that is beggining to be aimed at online videos. In today's age, there is no need for high-tech video equipment to capture video. Most cell phones today have the capability to capture short vidoes with the touch of a key. With the vast majority of people now owning cell phones, the ease of making these videos is stronger than ever before.
As with most new technology, online video's popularity has grown faster than has a way to police it, and ensure safety and human rights. Currently, sites are not supposed to air video with violence or criminal activity, but that does not stop these videos from making their way onto the web. News stories aimed at lessening the violence have at this time, done little more than advertise the videos, as well as making it more appealing for people to post contreversial video, as they see the press these things are getting. It is a possibilty that in the future, it is possible that police will be able to monitor these sites, and press charges when a human rights violation occurs. As for now, if a crime is reported from one of these videos, it can be used in a court of law. By posting them, the video becomes public information, and no warrent is needed to use the videos in court.
In today's virtual world, posting videos online is simple. Getting them off the internet, however, is virtually impossible. When posting any message or video, it is crucial that the user understand that they are sharing their post with the world, and they may not be able to take back anything that they put out there.
