Hillary Clinton's qualifications to be president

Reading Charles Krauthammer's (Washington Post) column recently in my local paper, I came across a rather stunning observation one on which I fear many Americans have been speculating for awhile I suspect. Regarding the Tuzla sniping incident, the esteemed Mr. K refers to it as "confabulation on a pathological scalea Clinton scale." He further relates, in this article, that has been the problem: Democrats have been trying to obviate what Krauthammer calls "the Clintons' rather arm's length relationship with truth." - until now. Clintons is plural meaning they both, Bill and Hillary, are afflicted

Wow! That's putting it rather bluntly to say the least. Krauthammer basically is calling her a blatant liar, a person who will do or say anything to get elected, one who will even manufacture facts'. Hillary's credibility problem has now been illuminated further. People are beginning to truly see this as a trend', maybe even a character flaw.

She, disingenuously, has classified this latest faux pas as having misspoke' in a moment of just being tired. She has gone on late night Leno and joked about it. But joking and misspeaking' have not diminished the question of her credibility.

This is nothing new when it comes to the Clintons both Bill and Hillary. Their past is riddled with half truths, exaggerations, or just plain outright lies. "I did not have sex with that woman." remains perhaps the most blatant on Bill's finger wagging part. Her '35 years of experience' has been classified as exaggeration when examined closely. William Safire (New York Times) once referred to her as "a congenital liar". Others have spoken similarly.

Having been caught in her latest misspeak' has benefited Barack. He was in deep hot water over the Reverend Wright affair when the snipers came out of nowhere and took the heat off him and redirected it to Hillary. Let him off the hook, many are saying.

Political pundits and pontificators are right when they ask "Why?" Of all things, in her uphill battle for the nomination, she did not need to inflame doubts when it, the Tuzla visit, was good enough on its own merit. She, as First Lady, traveled abroad on numerous missions of good will. These alone had merit in her experience' argument. No need to embellish the Tuzla trip or other such travels - the Irish intervention, for example. But embellishing' is a Clinton pastime. One that could effectively deal a death blow to her nomination quest.

The one thing, perhaps the most important, the American people demand of a President is honesty. Without it the office is greatly diminished. There can be no President with a credibility gap. Nixon found that out rather harshly.

I suspect Hillary, when those video tapes surfaced on the Tuzla arrival shown as under such peaceful, normal conditions replete with flower girls - and no snipers - said something Homeresque' like "D'oh?"
