There are those times in life that things don't happen exactly as per plan. You might loose your job, loose a very valuable business contract and even your business may collapse. When that happens, people are forced to live with what they have which at times can be very little. It is therefore very important to understand how to live with what they have so that they can be able to survive those tuff times.
I have been in that situation severally and it has taught a valuable lesson; what is important in life. What truly makes people happy which is not wealth or abundance of things. But on a more practical note, having little teaches someone avoid wastage of anything that one has. During such times, I have learnt that to wash a cup I do not need to use water directly flowing from the tap but I can first use that water by placing it in a basin then dip several cups in the same water, I can even have more than one basin so that the first basin can be used to remove the dirt, the second one to have soapy water to wash the cup and the third bowl to rinse the cup. Today is still use that principle and I am able to conserve water. Do you know that globally over 10 billion litres of water are wasted? this means I am able to play my part in a global campaign in the conservation of resources.
Money like water is also a resource. By conserving your usage, one is able to live on very little. an example during the hard times would be to only buy items that you only need and forget everything else. I remember once using a cheaper type of soap to bath since the more expensive one was unaffordable. I even remember a time when I would use a bar soap for bathing and for washing clothes. That way instead of buying to different soaps, I used one multi-purpose soap. There are many other products that are multi-purpose and therefore you can target buying those kind of items.
During lean times you can also forget buying bread for breakfast and other breakfast items and instead eat the previous day's supper as breakfast. Preparing one meal a day, especially based on a filling recipe rather than a tasty one is also a solution. This means that for example in Kenya, I can prepare a meal of 'Ugali' which is a maize based meal that is stirred until hard and dry, together with kales locally known as sukuma wiki( push the week). This meal is cheap and very filling and allows the person to only it this meal once in a day and still participate in the hardest of menial jobs.
