Movie reviews: An Inconvenient Truth

The title of this movie is intriguing to those who can put their politics aside and concern themselves with one question "Is global warming really happening?"

If you were to say no, then you should see this movie and learn the facts. Mr. Gore did not make this movie as a ploy to vie for the Presidency as many who are disbelievers have stated.

The movie was released in 2006 and he did not run for the 2008 democratic nomination so that is a non-issue. So why did he make this movie was it just to make a statement or to start people thinking and changing their life style and habits. The only campaign Mr. Gore is heading is one of reversing the damages of our addiction to fossil fuels and halting further damage to the ozone layer that protects the earth.

The scientific journals, studies and experts are quite real and have all weighed in on the side of global warming is real and we must do something about it.

When you see the great white polar bears dying because they cannot seek solid ice to find food and large hundred mile icebergs melting in the oceans it does not appear to be trick photography at work.

The reality of the photographs taken twenty years ago of Mount Kilimanjaro and those taken today are real, they are not misrepresented in any way.

The graph used to represent the world's temperature for the last ten years is riveting and the numbers were not fictional. Gore uses words, images and a power point presentation he had presented around the world in the film an Inconvenient Truth. It will take a global effort for all countries to participate in reversing the damages made by pollution, gas emissions, and burning fossil fuels and as Gore points out we owe it to our children and future generations to address the damages we have inflicted on this earth.

As many have witnessed the storms around the world have become fiercely violent as you see in this movie namely Katrina, the typhoons in Japan, stronger hurricanes and tornados are becoming daily events today. South America had never experienced a hurricane until recent years, winters becoming warmer in the north, and signs of wildlife becoming extinct are all on increasing concerns.

People who do not believe in Mr. Gore while being cynical are also hiding their heads in the sand and are passing the movie off as a political stunt.

To others this movie is frightening, and disturbing our very consciousness of accepting responsibility for our excesses and the message was very powerfully delivered to the masses. Mr. Gore speaks to the soul in every person and shows the warming oceans, the every increasing carbon dioxide rates taken at the poles, and a mock up of what the melting of the polar caps will do to the City of New York and coastlines that disappear in massive floods.

An Inconvenient Truth is not only an educational documentary on global warming it is a glimpse into the future, if we do not address global warming on a world wide basis; it will be more than an inconvenience to all of us.

The movie is rated PG, and parents should accompany their children as it may be very distressing for minors and politicians.
