Poetry: Family ties

STEP-SON

I wasn't there to see you crawl
or to take your first step and see you fall.

But ever since you were ten, I can say
that I routed you on everyday.

The day I met you I wouldn't have known
that I would grow to love you as my own.

That little freckle nosed boy
that would become my pride and joy.

I cheered you on at your games
I insulted the opposing team and called them names.

We've had our arguments and our fights
your worries that kept us up at nights.

You would learn to drive a car
in life you had come so far.

You made me proud when you finished school
I knew you would never be anyones fool.

Although it made me proud to watch you grow
it also made me sad to let you go.

I watched you laugh, I watched you cry
when you lost your finger I thought I would die.

And now you have found love and a wife
starting fresh with a brand new life.

Together you both are happy in love
blessed by all the stars from above.

When all is said and done...
I am also blessed, with a son.
