The Ellangowan hotel
The Ellangowan hotel stands at the edge of Scotland's largest and most ancient woodland. Built entirely from local granite in 1898, the Ellangowan remains one of Scotland's original tourist hotels. The building itself is gothic in appearance, and perhaps for this reason its interiors were used as locations for the filming of the cult British horror movie, The Wicker Man,' in 1968.
All the rooms are en-suite, well furnished and decorated to a high standard. They offer colour television, tea/coffee making facilities and all the other modern conveniences that you would expect from a quality hotel.
Guests will discover plenty of activities while staying at the Ellangowan. Five RSPB reserves can be found within a one-hour drive of the hotel, along with plenty of opportunities for hill walking, mountain climbing and general rambling. The hotel also sits within easy reach of over twenty golf courses.
