is willing to wait for him, in the meantime babysitting for Jake and keeping a list of all the food she takes from Charlie's refrigerator so she can remember to replace it later. April Bowlby is Kandi, a beautiful slow witted girl that was married to Alan for a short time and still comes around every so often. I really wish the writers could find some way to keep her in the show to build on the humor that exists when Alan tries to reason with her, much like you would a child.
Some shows that are worth watching as repeats and are just as funny the second or third time around. The one in which Martin Sheen, Charlie's real life father, plays Rose's father who comes to chastise Charlie for the way he has treated his little girl and then ends up moving in with Evelyn until forcibly removed by Rose and her grandmother is great to watch to see the interaction between Charlie and Martin. Another good one is when Evelyn feels guilty about not seeing Jake so much and asks him to spend the night at her house. In typical uppity Evelyn style she tries to serve Jake sushi for dinner, which he quickly rejects. She then suggests squab, again a rejection, but Jake can't help but think the word is worth sounding out again and keeps repeating it over and over. They finally settle on spaghetti with hot dogs and catsup which ends up all over Evelyn's elegant living room when Jake jumps out and yells "Squab!" and grandma throws the plate into the air. Total chaos, and totally funny time and time again.
I recently read a review that theorizes that it is time for Charlie to grow up and Alan to develop a spine in future episodes. That would be a radical departure from the current theme of the show, but the writers are so skilled they could probably pull it off. It has been renewed for another year, so we may see some changes appear in the future.
