The effects of pride

Pride can do one of two things. It can lead us to our true inner being, or hide that Christ like being inside for the rest of our lives. It isn't necessarily a bad aspect of humanity. Pride creates a way to make us strive to be better parents, siblings, spouses, employees, friends and better human beings in general. When we take pride in our family, homes and country, we are expressing an attitude of gratitude, but when we use pride to be right and feel superior, we are hiding from our true and God like inner being.

How to Release Pride to Find the Being in Human Beings:

1. Recognize that pride is just the human side of our minds.

Don't scold yourself for having pride in your life. It's a vital part of your journey, but use it more effectively in the search for your inner being, by not gossiping, judging or condemning. At first, we may need to stop doing those things verbally until the need to do those things finally leave our thoughts as well.

When a judgmental thought comes to your mind, be aware of it and this all by itself will diminish it.

2. Strive to be more present in the moment.

The truth is that life is what happens in moments, so be aware of the moment. The past never lasts, unless we allow our minds to dwell there. I believe God gave us a memory as a teaching tool only. We can use the past as a way to create better days, but when we hold onto it with bitterness and a sense of, "unfairness," we sabotage the gift of happiness and peace where our being is finally found.

Be aware that it's only the ego of pride that makes us dwell in the past or worry about the future, but our being knows that God intends us to seek perfect peace in ourselves and in others. When we focus on peace, it's our being. We begin to see the true inner being of others and when we do, it's easier for them to see ours too.

3. See a realistic view of human emotions.

Emotions only mean that we are human beings. They could be simply a way for our human side to communicate with our true inner being. When we are happy, our being is pleased and we feel good. When we are mad or sad, our being hides behind pride and we feel bad. Maybe if we learn to accept that our emotions don't mean as much as we think of them, we can choose to feel good more often.

Our human side always has to make up its mind to choose how it feels, but our true inner being is always at peace and can only be seen when we feel happy, grateful and at peace. Pride can make us, "feel proud," which can lead to the feeling
