The best alternative songs of the 90s

The explosive alternative vocals of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and The Cure anchored by a carrying-away power of powerful guitar riffs, dominant drums tempos and post-punk revival melodies has been the alternative suggestion towards the pop dominance of Madonna and Michael Jackson in the 90s. Producing non-commercial music, intentionally different from any other genre, and recording under independent labels, alternative rock groups of the 90s became cult symbols receiving great exposure through college radio airplay and word-of-mouth.

The term alternative was largely used to describe any type of music altering from the mainstream music. The term emerged in the 1980s and became broadly popular in the 1990s. The term "alternative" was coined in the 1980s to describe.

Though the genre is considered to be rock, some of its subgenres are influenced by To my view, the best alternative songs of the 90s (in alphabetical order) are:

1. Bauhaus "She's In Parties" from the album "Swing The Heartache" (1998): the darkest side of alternative rock is reflected in Bauhaus hymn "She's In Parties". Dominant bass chords, intense synth sounds and creepy vocals create a gloomy, passionate post-punk hymn.

2. Blur Song 2 from the album "Blur" (1997): projecting a fearless melody, progressive sound and experimental mood, "Song 2" is a profoundly creative song full of emotions and meaning.

3. Cure "A Play For Today" (Live) from the album "Paris" (1992): explosive drums, moving melody, controversial guitar riffs, unique Cure bass chords, astonishing lyrics and thousand Cure fans accompanying the melancholic, British accent vocals of Robert Smith; absolutely amazing.

4. Garbage "I Think I'm Paranoid" from the album "Version 2.0" (1999): powerful guitar riffs, quick drumming, controversial lyrics and unique vocals make "I Think I'm Paranoid" one of the best songs in the history of music.

5. Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from the album "Nevermind" (1991): the song that changed rock sound in the 1990's and made alternative rock mainstream. The immense personality of Curt Cobain reflected in powerful guitar sounds and reminiscent screams.

6. Pearl Jam "Black" from the album "Ten" (1991): ground-breaking sound and explosive vocals reflect the emotionality of a strained relationship and the agony of losing a loved one over another person; a true diamond.

7. Placebo "Every you, Every Me" from the album "Without You I'm nothing" (1998): one piece of art, with strong lyrics, introspective sounds and reverse
