Humor: Things that go bump In the night

It was an old dark house, with three huge rooms downstairs, and a room off the kitchen that was used as a third bedroom for our brother. The middle room was the dining room, and off to the right when you were facing the kitchen, was a room with a huge double bed. There were three doors, the first was a our bedroom, {my sisters and I,} and then the attic, and then the bathroom.

It was a cold night, and just as luck would have it, the lights went out. So being the oldest sister, I grabbed the flashlight and I said to my kid sisters, "Do you want to have a seance?" They asked me what that was, and I told them, "You can talk to the dead." They said, "Na uh!" And I told them, "Yes uh!" They seemed quit taken by this and agreed.

So, I went and found a candle, and we all sat underneath our huge mahogany dining room table. I told them we had to hold hands, and no matter what, we had to keep our hands held tight. My littlest sister, had these huge curlers in her hair, and it looked scary enough. My other sister was so easy to scare, but this night she was not having any of it, or so she thought.

The all said at the same time, " Who are we going to talk to?" I didn't know any dead people, I was just a kid too, and didn't know any dead people except Abraham Lincoln and Marilyn Monroe, that really pretty actress, that offed herself. What a dumb thing that was to do, I thought as a kid.

So that is who we decided to call back, if it would work! So, I shut off the flashlight, and all we had was one tiny candle and three little girls with huge imaginations, that didn't know what they were doing. But here goes as my memory serves me. I told them, "Now hang on tight and if you don't, you could be the next to die." just to make it really scary. Then I said in a spooky voice, " Hello, Marilyn we are calling you, you had no right to hurt your mommy by doing what you did." There was a rumor that she killed herself, because she feared growing old. I kept up the chant, and I told them to concentrate on the candle, and if it moved or changed shape like flickering, or the flame goes up higher, she would be in the room. I called out again and nothing happened, yet!

I kept telling my sisters to hold my hand tight, that I was becoming afraid, and they trusted me. And they knew I would not allow anything to hurt them. I told them again, "To keep their eyes on the flame! Just then the flame grew larger and my one sister said, "Shawl it is there!" I said, "Where?" And I was afraid to look. My kid sister said, "Cheryl, she's telling the truth look at the wall!" All I could see was this grotesque figure dancing with the flicker of the candle, as it grew in size. Then we all started screaming knocked over the candle, and lost sight of our flashlight. And we all three started screaming louder, than the next and ......it was nothing but the shadow of my little sister's curled up head that we were seeing on the walls.

It sure is funny now, when I look back, but it wasn't then. Worst of all, we could have set the house on fire and got killed. Once we told daddy about it... I almost wished we had, from the spanking we all took from him. And that doesn't take calling back the dead, to remember that. But, I still snicker when I think about how much fun we had. And how much I scared my kid sister's, with our bumps of our heads under the table top, and in the night.
