Equality in the work place has been an issue for as long as men and women have worked together. Apparently, men work harder than women, or so many believe. Men and women work equally hard and get just as much accomplished as the other. Since the work is equal, the pay should be equal as well.

Companies in the United States should be required to pay all employees equally and fairly. Obviously, pay should depend on position. If a woman works as a receptionist, she should not expect the same pay as a man in charge of system security. However, if a man and woman are in the same position, they should be paid the same.

There are some jobs that women do better than men and vice versa. Companies need to realize that men and women work equally hard for their money. Often times, women work harder just to prove their equality. Instead of looking at gender, companies should look only at qualifications and how well the employee does the job.

It's sad that equality in the work place is still up for debate. Some companies are so desperate to avoid any type of sexual harassment suites related to a male employee being paid more than a female that females are actually paid much more than men. This is no fairer than a man getting a higher salary simply because he's a man.

Instead of US companies giving people reason to debate monetary equality in the workplace, they should be the ones taking the initiative to create equality between men and women. If companies made it clear that men and women are equal, then their employees would have the same opinion.

When men have had to go off to war, women have been the ones that not only took care of the housework and children, but worked the jobs men had to leave. They did just as well as any man, but were paid less. So many people make fun of housewives, but when you aren't properly compensated for a job, why would want to do it? US companies that provide equal pay will allow women who need or want a job to work and support themselves as well as any man.

Men can't carry a country by themselves, neither can women. It takes both working together. However, unless US companies pay both genders equally, the country could miss out on some very talented workers.

US companies should be required to pay an employee equally no matter what their gender. US companies that promote gender equality are more successful and have a more talented and diverse workforce.
