The best current television series by far is Stargate SG1, Stargate SG1 is a science fiction television series based on a 1994 film "Stargate". Both the movie and the television series are based off a device called the "Stargate" that uses wormholes to take people and objects across the vast distance of space.

The Stargate team known as SG1 has a mission to explore the galaxies and protect earth against any threat they find, actor's such as Richard Dean Anderson,

Michael Shanks, Samantha Carter, Christopher Judge, Ben Browder, and Claudia Black have made this series a true inspiration.

One of the first alien threat's SG1 has encountered is known as the Goa'uld, an alien parasite that embeds it's self into people and animals in order to survive, it takes control of it's host and has exceptional healing power's and technologies. Other more advanced threats they have encountered are the replicators and the Ori.

While searching the galaxies and fighting these very advanced beings SG1 has managed to encounter many other, more friendly races known as the Knox, the Asgaurd, and the Ancients, while some of these races have advanced to a higher plain of existence, they still prove to be a valuable asset to SG1s survival as a race.

Stargate SG1 has become the longest running Sci-Fi series of all time, they are currently on season 10 and this series has spawned an additional series called Stargate: Atlantis, which is officially on season 3, additionally the Stargate series has sparked more interest from Hollywood because there are talk's of making two more Stargate movies, one which is not related to the story line of the television series and one that does relate to the television series.

If you are not a fan of Stargate then I encourage you to watch some episodes, you will not be disappointed, In my own opinion the creators Jonathan Glassner and Brad Wright have combined our own ancient cultures with modern belief in extraterrestrial beings, they do this in such a way that you are convinced that this could very well have taken place a few thousand years ago.

By far it is the best series of all time and even though there are talks of cancelling the Stargate SG1 series, other television networks are working on deals to keep it running. Stargate: Atlantis and the two new Stargate movies that are being created have no plans of stopping and I believe in a few years they will be remembered as an inspirational story with unbelievable characters.
