Most memorable TV couples

By this does it necessarily mean a female/male couple or a comedy duo, or both. So I would set out below my most memorable TV couples.

Eric Morcombe & Ernie Wise (Comedians)
Can you remember their Christmas TV specials? It was the highlight of our Christmas for TV viewing. This was in the days before satellite TV and we had a choice of only 3 TV stations.

The most memorable sketch for me was the one when they made breakfast to the sound of the striptease song. Two men dressed in their pajamas and dressing gowns, parading around the kitchen, cutting up oranges and Ernie Wise squeezing them on to an electric squeezer and shaking at the sound of the trumpets being blown in the music of the song.

Then strings of sausages gaily being swung around as if it was an item of clothing and pieces of toast being put into the toasters and popping up in time to the beat of the music.

All very clever script writing and this amongst some other brilliant sketches will be forever remembered on British TV fondly.

My second choice is:
Ronnie Corbet and Ronnie Barker (Comedians)
Again two very brilliant performances and again the sketch that sticks in my mind is the one about Fork Handles (or four candles) or plugs. Set in a general store with Ronnie Barker as the customer with an order of items he wants to buy with Ronnie Corbet acting as the salesman.

The breakdown of understanding each other in this particular sketch is just so funny with Ronnie Barker looking at Ronnie Corbet as if he is mad. It can be found on you tube and is just very cleverly written.

The other sketch that springs to mind is the Mastermind sketch where Ronnie Barker plays the part of Magnus Magnuson and Ronnie Corbet is the contestant. All the questions are asked as per normal but the answers are answered to the question before.

Its just so brilliant and the scriptwriters were so brilliant in the preparation of delivering this sketch.

My third most memorable sketch is:
Samantha & Darren (Bewitched)
I used to love this program with Samantha as a witch who marries an earthling but she still manages to keep her supernatural powers. They have a beautiful daughter and they have to contend with the interfering mother in law (Samantha's mother) who keeps doing the odd spell on Darren.

The modern day film version of this was very cleverly done (with Nicole Kidman), but did not have the same screen presence as the original.

My fourth couple that I will fondly remember is
George & Mildred (Roper)
They were also in Man About the House as the couple who owned a house and rented out part of the house to three flatmates, (two girls and a guy).

This particular series was originally back in the late 70's but I am pleased to say that a re-run of all these are now seen on Sky TV.

Despite the fact that the sketches date back over 30 years, they still seem very fresh and still make me chuckle with the fashions and light hearted banter that went on in these comedy sketches.

George and Mildred were the typical couple who despite their bickering would probably have fallen apart if either one of them departed.

My final couple is:
Jack and Vera Duckworth (Coronation Street)
Again another couple who were constantly bickering at one another and despite this remained married (in their roles in "Corrie") for over 40 years.

Sadly Vera died in the episode just as both she and Jack were going to retire the seaside, and moving away from Coronation Street.

The above couples were just a few examples and there are a few more, but they stuck out in my mind for both the amount of time they stayed on TV as a series and are constantly being played on the terrestrial channels for us to remember them by.
