What is a fad diet?

How can you tell if a diet is just a fad? It is simple. Every diet is a fad diet. What does this mean? It means it is an ineffective temporary solution to weight problems, and everyone buys into it. Fad diets usually result in negative effects on a persons weight loss, as well as potentially dangerous conditions.

Everyone wants to lose weight, and they want to do it fast and without effort. Then they hear about these "new and amazing" diets that are guaranteed to work. Guaranteed to work? How long have they even been around for? Usually what happens is some new radical diet idea is created. A few people test it out for a little while, and they have initial success. Then it's off to market. Tell everyone that this new diet works and its easy. Everyone buys into it because its the newest thing. After a while, there are no real results. Around this time another fad diet will appear, and everyone's attention is shifted. It is an endless cycle.

What are some of the most popular fad diets? Anything that uses the selling point of "eat what you want" is a fad. People don't want to make real changes to their lifestyle, even though it's their lifestyle that causes their weight problems. Ideas such as cutting carbohydrates, counting calories, and conscious eating are all fad diets. None deal with the root of weight problems, so none are effective. Fad diets also can be dangerous, because they usually involve a drastic change, such as removing a food group. There has not been any approval of this diet because it is an idea, not a product. Additionally, the effects over time are unknown because there are so new.

The reason people are tricked by these diets is the fact they are lazy. If they were serious about losing wight, they would do it naturally and own their own. However, they see advertisements for quick, easy, and popular diets, and they opt for the easy path. Most people are overweight. That should be a clue as to stay away from popular weight loss programs. The way to lose weight? Eat right and exercise.

People always follow fads because it is the thing to do. The same is true with dieting. Instead of making their own choices involving a healthier lifestyle, people would rather someone do it for them. A continuous cycle of new fads will always keep people blind to the truth of dieting.
