we've come to associate so closely with Ann that we ourselves might find ourselves rooting for King Kong, rather than the people who seek to subdue him or cause him harm.
We can also thank Andy Serkis for that, as he was the actor who provided much of the acting for the CGI character of King Kong. Like with Gollum before, Andy breathes life into Kong and makes him seem relatable. Human. Sympathetic.
The CGI does take a bit of a beating during some of the more intense fighting scenes, like with King Kong and the dinosaurs. But as a whole, especially with Kong himself, we find ourselves buying into the story.
And, if you're like me, even crying for the tragedy of it all. There were so many poignant moments strewn together between Kong and Ann that we could grow to love him in the same way she had, our knowledge of his inevitable death only exacerbating it.
If I had to complain about anything, it would be the final parting words of Carl Denham that closed the movie. One of the cheesier lines in movie history, I think maybe not saying anything at all would have been a better way to go.
But other than that all I can do is thank Peter Jackson for weaving together this remake with respect and love for the legend and the wonder that is King Kong.
