I'm locked in a room,
Four walls, all I see.
I'm helplessly trapped;
I long to be free.
Sitting in a corner,
Knees pulled to my chest.
I can not sleep;
I can not rest.
My heart pounds with fear;
Anxiety echoes through my spine.
I try to tell myself,
That things will be fine.
I think of my life -
The things that I've done,
My friends and my family,
The competitions I've won.
I think of my home,
Of long hot summer days...
Of the smell of Mom's cooking,
And of past holidays.
Sweat pours from my glands.
I tremble; I shake.
How in the world,
Did I get to this place?
I once was so happy -
I felt like I could fly.
Then the drugs came along,
And I gave them a try.
At first it was so exciting;
Oh the mountains I could climb!
But then I ceased to exist,
Throughout all space and time.
I lost my life,
My ambition, my laugh.
Became so filled with this rage,
With this anger, this wrath.
Drowning within myself,
Swimming in my addiction.
My own choice-
My own worst decision.
Now longing to be out,
But so trapped within this box,
Fighting my own battle,
So my soul is not lost.
Fighting to reclaim,
What was once mine.
To regain the memories,
And make up for lost time.
I'm locked in a room.
I've not yet found the key.
But its buried not far away,
Deep within side of me.
I must find this key,
So I can open this door,
And get back to the person,
That I was before.
