In the forest fell a tree,
A man then used the wood
To build a home for those he loved,
And it was strong and good.
The house grew as his family did,
With rooms all full of joy,
He planted corn and wheat and things
To nourish all his boys.
His youngest loved the animals,
And tended them with care,
Pigs and horses, chickens and cows,
But he loved the birds nesting there.
He'd purse his lips and whistle,
And they'd all begin to sing.
Like a chorus of feathered angels
paying homage to their king.
On the ground he found a nest
And climbed up high did he
To put it back and save the eggs,
But it was not to be.
The tree was old, and began to sway,
He held on mightily,
But twas in vain, he lost his grip,
In the forest, fell a tree.
