The creator of Supernatural often refers to it as a modern day Western: the hunters are the cowboys, the supernatural that they fight the Indians. And it fits.
The show stars two young, hot, talented actors - Jared Padalecki as Sam and Jensen Ackles as his older brother Dean.
What first attracted me to the show was that I knew these actors from Gilmore Girls and Dark Angel, and I like the concept of any television show and the supernatural, so I gave it as chance. After the first episode, I was hooked. The show has the intensity and the chemistry that many shows nowadays seem to last, and this is why they don't last very long. The show is well written, with a plot twist at every corner, and eve though it's centered around the supernatural, it's relatable because of the family dynamic between the brothers and their dearly departed parents. Both the brothers and their father would do anything for each other, and this is evident in their choices and deals made with the devil.
In my opinion, Eric Kripke, the show's creator, is a genius, as are the rest of the writing team. It is very rare that a television show can build up to a crucial point in the plot and make the climax as good and pulse-racing and the build up, but they manage it.
Everyone has had some sort of supernatural encounter at some point, and this show plays on that. The people that get affected by the supernatural are normal, everyday people, so they get completely freaked out when the supernatural wreaks havoc with their lives. And we all love to see people suffer. It's human nature. What makes it even better is when people get their happily ever after. However, if you're looking for a fairytale ending every episode, this is the wrong show for you.
The show combines everything a good television program needs into one: comedy, drama, love, action, adventure, great writing, great direction, and of course, a great cast, and it is a show that I would recommend to anyone and everyone (especially if you love Charmed, Buffy, or Tru Calling because it's better than all of those three rolled into one. Especially Charmed at the end. Cough cough).
