Poetry: Alarm clocks

Sound asleep
Dreaming away
But that won't last
There are bills to pay

The alarm clock sounds
and away go dreams
The day begins
or so it seems

Now out of bed
to the shower I go
Gotta get to work-
those bills, you know

No time to eat
Straight to the car
I can't be late
or I'll face the czar

Traffic stops
A wreck ahead
Oh, tell me why
I got out of bed

Late to work
My boss-he steams
What I would give
to go back to dreams

Hide in my office
and lock the door
Gotta be careful
and do not snore

Asleep again
Oh, this is nice
I'll settle in
and won't think twice

The alarm clock sounds
No need for a ruse
That was all a dream
I had hit the snooze
