Spring has finally approached us, and it is hard for us not to see the beauty in the blooming trees and flowers along with the blue skies. But how can we uphold our responsibility and hopefully our intent to keep our planet happy through our environmental efforts? One of those efforts is to recycle.
Recycling is a task that is actually easier than many realize. It doesn't require much extra work which makes the appeal even greater. Many small efforts can be made, and all those small efforts add up to make a big change in how our planet survives. Below I have included many tips and ideas of how everyone can incorporate recycling into their daily lives.
Recycling Tip #1
Call your trash pick up service and find out if it offers recycling as an option. Most trash pick up companies offer the service as a part of your regular fee with an additional one time fee for the container. The fee for the container usually runs around $10. Remember to ask what items you can and cannot include in the recycling bin. Then simply put it out just like you put your trash can out. A very simple earth saving effort!
Recycling Tip #2
Collect those plastic grocery bags. Before throwing out those plastic store bags think of other uses for them. Not only are these plastic bags hard to break down once in a landfill, many of the bags end up in rivers and lakes and pose a hazard to wildlife. So to make the best of these bags, reuse them. You can use them by taking them with you back to the store, to hold items around the house, for craft projects, or simply take them to a store that does collect them for recycling. Kroger Company is one of the many stores that collects these bags for recycling purposes.
Recycling Tip #3
Many plastics around your house can be recycled or reused. For example, plastic containers such as soda bottles, milk bottles and juice bottles can all be cleaned out and used to collect use change. If you cut the bottles, the bottoms are great for planting seedlings. The clear bottles allow for you to watch and see the roots grow. This can be a great learning experience for children. The top halves of the bottles can also be used as play toys in sand boxes as funnels. Careful to make sure there are no sharp edges.
Recycling Tip #4
Now what do you do about those cereal boxes? Try cutting the box to look like the storage file boxes that are used to hold papers and magazines. This saves you from having to buy additional office supplies.
Recycling Tip #5
Other items like baby food jars
