Characteristics of a good person

Are there any good people left in the world? Today every one asks. It seems that these species is becoming extinct and need to be protected by the Cites. I think the most affected are women as they implore the world to produce a few more good men to marry. I think our societal structures of the family, church, and school have failed to instill good morals in our world and also the media especially through movies and music have portrayed wrongly that the only way one can survive in this world is by being tough and rough in this mean world.

So in my quest to outline a good person, I think I will state ideals rather than common place traits to look out for and then you grade a person on a scale of 1-10. I would also like to clarify that also that there is no one perfect in this world and we are all flawed. Therefore we are searching for a good person and not a perfect person. Good therefore is a perception of an individual and thus relative. To one person is a person who is lively while to another that same person may be perceived to be noisy. To another a good person may be one who expresses concern while to another that might be a person described as too nosy. Therefore what I give below is my personal and not universal characteristics of a good person.

To me a good person is one who looks not into his own interests but into the interests of others first. This means that the person will be willing to sacrifice there own ambitions for the sake of others. In Kenya the political stalemate between the two major political parties is due to the fact that both leaders are looking into their own personal interest first rather than that of the country as a whole. They are therefore fighting for more power at expense of the country. To me therefore the political leaders are not good people. A good person is not greedy or selfish and can sacrifice his ambition to see another person succeed.

A good person is also one that is himself. The person is not proud, self exalting or pretentious; does not have a public image that is different from their private image. It is because of this that they are able to open up their hearts and homes to others and be honest and frank with nothing to fear or hide. This attribute therefore makes them very likeable and draws many friends to them.

A good person is one who uses the three all important words. Please, thank you and sorry. This means that they are very courteous due to my first point and also accept when they do wrong.
