Reasons to play and support soccer

Ronaldo's on the ball..past one defender...dribbles past another....tricks the third and STRRRIKEES.....GOOOOAL! What a goal! How incredible! How did he get past all those defenders? Simply the best.

You will know exactly what I am talking about when I mention the last few moments before a footballer scores. Your heartbeat goes up; your adrenalin makes you even more excited; and then the moment you have been waiting for - you scream and shout and jump for joy. How can anyone beat that feeling?

The game is fast and furious at times. Sometimes one team can just about score and within a minut another team scores at the other end. When one goes to a match the atmosphere is electric, and to be with like minded people is like nothing else on earth. The fans celebrate together and cry together.

I think people play the game for more or less the same reasons. When a player scores we can see how much he enjoys the goal, after all some players do not score all that often. The ones that do still love every single goal they score. This is what the fans have been waiting for and for a minute or so every single fan has their eye on him and him alone. It can't get much better than that.

One can mention the money aspect to the game, but is this a factor? I once heard David Beckham say he loves football so much he would play for free. Naturally one cannot live without money, but I do not think players think they should become a footballer just because of that.

In most countries children are encouraged to play soccer, some will find they have natural skill and find it a lot of fun to dodge defenders or save goals. Some find it so much fun they want to take it to a higher level. They do not have a difficult life either. They train for a few hours a day and play one or two matches a week. This stress free life must be very attractive to the players. It definitely beats sitting in an office 9-5 working for a boss who
has an ego and workers around you who think they know better than you.

Whether one is a fan or a player both want their team to win. The fan will sing to help their team on; the footballer will talk to his fellow players to egg them on. Either way it is clear why people play and support football - it is simply the best.
