Reflections on womanhood: Every woman is a goddess

I am woman, daughter, lover, mother, goddess

A child is born, innocent, peaceful, untroubled by the worries of the outside world. She knows nothing of her purpose in this life, only that she requires nourishment, warmth and love. In her mother's arms these needs are fulfilled, and she learns that she is important in some way. She smiles, and the whole world becomes a little more beautiful. Earth mother Gaia smiles in return, her job is done, a new goddess has made her presence felt.

Deep within her psyche, every woman carries the essence of the great Earth goddess Gaia. Honoured in Greek mythology as mother of the universe, the wise and benevolent Gaia epitomises the fertile, creative foundation of the feminine principle.

The young girl thrives in her secure and loving environment. She is filled with her sense of adventure and her thirst for knowledge of the world around her. She radiates with an inner beauty that melts the hearts of everyone she meets. Through imitation and pretend play she learns to manipulate and interact with her surroundings in such a way that she can begin to see a larger picture of herself unfolding. Unknowingly she is preparing herself for her future role as an independent woman. Artemis, goddess of strength and self reliance has arisen.

Mischievous and wild, Artemis encourages women to embrace their independence with enthusiasm and passion. Her physical, emotional and spiritual strengths allow her to be true to her dynamic nature, while maintaining an endearing childlike disposition.

Through adolescence the girl commences her passage to womanhood. As her body develops and matures, she finds herself emotionally unprepared for the transient flood of hormonal activity, causing her to question her ability to transform into the sexual being that is her destiny. She wavers between shyness and aloofness, and yet she secretly desires to be noticed and adored by her peers. This is the time for Aphrodite, goddess of love, to weave her magic.

Also known as Venus, the seductive and intoxicating Aphrodite is well known for her expertise in the language of love. She represents the subtle balance between sexual attraction and modesty that inspires true love and meaningful relationships.

Now fully fledged, the young woman marries her soul mate and contemplates her impending motherhood. Her anxieties are many as the reality of her growing baby changes her body yet again. She is torn between an overwhelming sense
