The reality of working from home

papers on the table all night.

BE ACCOUNTABLE
For some people, the greatest challenge of working from home is to be accountable to themselves. Nobody else will know if you watch the game or a movie on television for a few hours during the day. There is nobody to question your three-hour lunch break when you finish that garage or garden project. And, at first, you might not even notice how much time is spent on household chores that can easily distract you as you leave the office to fill your coffee cup.

Evaluate yourself as you would an employee. Or as your boss would if he worked in the office down the hall. Remind yourself daily of the reasons why you wanted to work from home. Those reasons are usually good motivation to get back on task and do what you know needs to be done.

Without coworkers and employees to delegate to, you get to do everything and need to realize that some responsibilities are just not as much fun to do. Be accountable to your goals and do the work even when you can think of two dozen things that need done around the house that you would rather be doing instead.

The satisfaction of being your own boss, setting your own schedule and spending more time at home can be tremendous. Having realistic expectations and applying perseverance and dedication can make it financially and personally rewarding
