A healthy diet for gout patients

One of the best ways to recover from gout is through diet and medication. Anyone seeking a healthy diet for gout patients is encouraged to understand the condition known as gout, as well as the foods and beverages to avoid. Many foods and beverages can cause gout or provoke gout to become inflamed, swollen, and very tender to the touch. In order to prevent this from happening, doctors and scientists have discovered that a special diet for gout patients is crucial to their recovery.

A healthy diet for gout patients consists of a low purine diet, free of alcohol, white meats and red meats. Turkey, chicken, and pork are very high in fat and should be avoided when you're on a diet for gout patients. Purines are in many foods and it would be impossible and unhealthy to eliminate them completely from a diet for gout patients. Nevertheless, it's important to only incorporate healthy proteins into your diet for gout patients.

Some foods which are healthy and suitable for a diet for gout patients include red and blue berries (strawberries, cherries, and blueberries). Rice, pasta, cereals, and breads that are considered complex carbohydrates are healthy and recommended as part of a diet for gout patients. Many people who have decided to go on a diet for gout patients have decided to substitute tofu in place of meat. Tofu is made from soy and it is a very healthy substitute for meats which may aggravate gout.

Green leaf vegetables like kale, parsley, and cabbage are a healthy part of a diet for gout patients. On the other hand, spinach and asparagus are high in purines and should be avoided by people on a diet for gout patients. Other vegetables which are part of a healthy diet for gout patients include tomatoes, celery, peppers, and potatoes. These vegetables can be prepared with tofu in soups, stir fry meals, and many more recipes.

A healthy diet for gout patients may seem very restrictive and hard to adjust to, but it's an essential part of feeling better if you have gout. As soon as you introduce a diet for gout patients to your body, you'll begin to feel and see positive results. Remember to drink plenty of water with your diet for gout patients, as water will help reduce swelling and tension brought on by gout. In addition to eating a proper diet for gout patients, people who suffer from gout should keep the effected area elevated above heart level.
